Dangerous Heat Waves
The extreme heat waves sweeping across parts of Europe, The U.S, and Canada, are posing serious health risks. Data shows these heat waves are now arriving earlier in the year, lasting longer, and reaching higher temperatures.
This summer, a "heat dome" in the U.S. from June 20 is expected to bring record-breaking temperatures and high humidity. Outdoor workers, the elderly, and those with health conditions face the highest risks.
The effects go beyond human health, effecting:
Growing seasons and reducing crop yields
Extending wildfire seasons across dry regions
Straining already limited water supplies
